DECK & FENCE STAINING

Average Investment Varies by Project Size
Average Timeline: 2-3 days

Unlike most companies, we don’t charge by the square foot. We believe time is valuable, both ours and yours. That’s why our staining projects are charged by the amount of time and materials it will take to get the job done. If you’ve recently had a deck or fence built, the best way to protect and add appeal to your investment is to properly clean and apply a quality stain that will withstand the elements for years to come.

OUR PROCESS

Our five step cleaning process ensures we provide the best overall look and longevity.

REMOVAL

We start by rinsing the wood and surrounding areas to prepare for the cleaning chemicals.

CLEANSE

Apply Sodium percarbonate (a safer bleaching agent). We mix the chemical with water to create a solution that will work like a detergent to remove dirt and mildew from your deck.

RINSE

Rinse the sodium percarbonate with a controlled pressure, soft wash tip to protect the substrate. Using too much pressure can deeply etch the wood and cause the fibers to splinter.

BRIGHTENER

Apply a wood brightener. Oxalic acid is used to brighten and neutralize the wood and also removes chemical stains and tannin discoloration from bare wood. This will guarantee the stain penetrates evenly for a uniform overall look.

RINSE & DRY

After allowing the oxalic acid to dwell, we then rinse the surface and surrounding areas. The wood is then allowed time to dry in preparation for the staining process.

TEST

After allowing the wood to dry we test for a moisture content under 14%. Staining a deck that has much higher moisture content can cause many problems. Stain or sealer will essentially lock unwanted moisture in the wood which then makes it prone to mold, mildew, and fungi. From there, wood rot and decay would be likely. This can jeopardize the structural integrity of the deck or fence and end up causing costly premature repairs and replacements.

PREP & APPLY

Before applying any stain, we make sure to thoroughly protect surrounding areas with masking plastic, masking paper and waterproof surface protectors. Before applying any stain we make sure to thoroughly mix the product to evenly disperse the tints throughout the solution, creating even color distribution along the surface. We apply a flood coat allowing the stain to fully penetrate the wood and back brush to ensure the stain works into the pores and crevasses of the wood.

WIPE EXCESS

After allowing the stain to fully penetrate on decks we wipe any access stain to avoid any blotchy areas. This also allows you to have full access to your deck within 24 hours.

RESULTS

We’ll protect your deck and make it last longer with a stain that repels water and prevents rotting while also guarding against UV and moisture damage.

MAINTENANCE

Stain life depends on several factors including amount of sun exposure, wear, surface prep, wood condition and application technique. Proper maintenance will keep a finish looking better longer. You will also want to inspect the surface every 2-3 years for decks and 4-7 years for fences to determine if the wood needs to be retouched, recoated or otherwise, dependent on weather conditions and maintenance performed.
